UniVerse & AI Masterclass Lead / Mentor

EuropeContract, RemoteEngineering£NegRef 870149

We are working with a global manufacturing group to find a UniVerse specialist to help steer their UniVerse IT Department on the practical use of using AI in day-to-day UniVerse development.

About the client and their UniVerse environment

The client runs core business systems (warehouse management) on Rocket UniVerse, maintained by a long-standing in-house team plus UniVerse BASIC staff.   Large, mature UniVerse BASIC codebase.

Why they want this

Business users are ahead of IT on AI, and the client wants the UniVerse developers to share that enthusiasm.

Engineering users already use AI agents to document programs and turn specifications into test scenarios.

Sorts of practical experience could include:

  • Code review and checking: AI reviewing BASIC programs and suggesting more standard approaches.
  • Impact analysis: which programs, files and components a change touches.
  • Code comparison: checking whether changes can be safely merged.
  • Documentation agents: generating functional specifications, dependencies and plain-English explanations from code.
  • Spec-driven change: edit the functional spec, let AI propose the code change, developer reviews and compiles.
  • Code generation: what AI-written UniVerse BASIC is like in practice and where it fails.
  • Safe access: read-only access, working on an offline copy of the source, permissions, data governance and keeping a human in the loop.

The person we need

  • ✅ Deep, hands-on UniVerse BASIC and MultiValue experience, ideally decades.
  • ✅  Real world experience using AI tools in their own UniVerse work (review, documentation, generation or impact analysis).
  • ✅  Ability to train / workshop / inspire others.
  • ✅  Straight-talking and honest about what AI cannot do.
  • ✅  Appreciation of the importance and role of Developers in the dawn of the AI era.
