Network Sales Engineer / Solutions Architect – Public Sector
Location: Remote, UK-based/home-based, with regular travel to customer sites
Salary: £90,000 - £120,000 + 20% bonus + car allowance + excellent benefits
Clearance: SC Clearance highly desirable; exceptional candidates without current clearance may also be considered

We are seeking an experienced Network Sales Engineer / Solutions Architect to support the continued growth of the organisation's UK Public Sector business.
The role will work across a broad portfolio of public sector customers, including central government, healthcare, education, local government, housing and other public services.
This is a remote, client-facing position suited to a highly technical presales professional with strong experience working within UK Government and/or the wider Public Sector.
SC Clearance is highly desirable, although candidates without current clearance may be considered where they can demonstrate strong public sector experience and the required technical credibility.
Key Requirements
You will be a client-facing technical expert with significant presales experience and the ability to operate effectively within complex, secure customer environments.
Essential skills and experience include:
5+ years' experience within IT, including at least 2 years within presales, network engineering or technical support
Demonstrable experience supporting UK Government and/or Public Sector customers
Ability to translate complex technical challenges into clear commercial and business value
Confidence engaging with stakeholders at C-suite and senior leadership level
Comfortable leading technical discussions and customer meetings onsite
Strong technical knowledge of:
Cisco routing, switching, gateways and applications
TCP/IP, SNMP, NetFlow and VoIP
LAN/WAN technologies and topologies, including MPLS and legacy networking technologies
Network security concepts and infrastructure design
Network performance, monitoring and fault/alert management
Good understanding of:
Linux and Windows operating systems
Cloud and virtualisation technologies
SDN/NFV
Public and private cloud environments
Experience with enterprise network and performance monitoring platforms
Relevant networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP or CCIE, or equivalent experience
Formal sales/presales methodology training would be advantageous
Experience of packet analysis and network troubleshooting
Comfortable with significant UK travel, potentially 60–70%
Desirable Experience
Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or another relevant technical discipline, or equivalent technical/military training
MBA or relevant business/leadership qualification
Experience with network visibility, performance management, application delivery or network security technologies
Experience authoring technical whitepapers or contributing to product strategy
Familiarity with security audits and RFP/RFI responses
Exposure to security analytics techniques including log analysis, anomaly detection and traffic monitoring
Understanding of full packet capture and analysis, with experience of tools such as Wireshark, Zeek or comparable technologies
Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and best practices such as NIST and ISO 27001, particularly their application to network assurance
Role & Responsibilities
As Network Sales Engineer / Solutions Architect, you will play an important role in supporting revenue growth by providing technical presales expertise, demonstrating solution value and designing appropriate solutions for public sector customers.
Working closely with regional sales leadership, you will act as a trusted technical advisor to customers, partners and internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities will include:
Leading technical discovery and supporting customers throughout the sales cycle
Understanding customer challenges and translating them into appropriate technical solutions
Differentiating solutions from competitors through compelling technical and commercial value propositions
Acting as a technical authority when working with Government organisations, systems integrators and service providers
Working with product and engineering teams to communicate customer requirements and market feedback
Supporting the development of technical documentation, RFP/RFI responses and whitepapers
Developing strong customer relationships and identifying opportunities for account growth
Representing customer requirements internally and ensuring technical alignment
Participating in relevant industry events, customer engagements and strategic initiatives
Supporting proof-of-concept (PoC) activity, including helping customers identify, investigate and troubleshoot network and application issues
Working Arrangements
The role is officially home-based, with regular UK travel expected.
Travel will include:
Customer meetings, potentially 3–4 days per week
Company conferences and events
Periodic sales engineering meetings and conventions
Candidates should therefore be comfortable operating in a highly customer-facing position with frequent travel.
For practical travel purposes, candidates based in England and Wales with good access to major transport links are likely to be particularly well suited, although applications will be considered based primarily on experience, technical capability and ability to meet the travel requirements.
