Would you like to get a promotion ?
Well getting a promotion is not guaranteed. However, there are certainly some things that you can do to separate yourself from the competition and increase the likelihood that you will, in fact, receive the promotion you are looking for.
The following are some guidelines and tips to help you to get that next promotion.
Tip #1: The
Basics - Turn up to work on time, don’t leave early. If you want to be considered for additional
responsibility and money, you need to have mastered the basics.
Tip #2: Go Further – Go further in your duties than just your job description. If you wish to get promoted, you need to look for more and go the extra mile. If you see additional tasks that need doing and no-one is doing them, ask your boss if you can do them.
Tip #3: Get Advice - Find someone who is already doing the role / level you wish to be promoted to and ask them how they got to that level and then see if you can follow a similar strategy.
Tip #4: Education – Check out if additional education or qualifications would help get you to the next level. If so, start training yourself. This shows your keen interest and desire to continue to enhance your career.
Tip #5: Move – Apply for the promotion that you want but with another company. Sometimes your own company simply doesn’t appreciate what you have to offer or perhaps does not have enough positions at that level available so cannot promote you. If that’s the case, then it might be necessary to get promotion by moving company.
