This week Jessie F.R. is answering a common question asked by jobseekers:
“What is the right method / strategy for a successful job hunt ?”
To build a strategy, it is important to understand the methods open to the Hunters.
A Company has 3 main options open to them to find a suitable candidate:
- Network. This is the modern phrase for “ asking around and trying to find someone known to them or known to someone who knows them. In the old days this was known as putting word out on the street.
- Advertise. A company can advertise in trade journals, local press, on job boards as well as on their own websites.
- Recruiter. Not all recruiters are equal. Not all recruiters work the same way:
- Some Recruiters will just advertise on job boards and then filter response.
- Others will just search CV job boards looking for the right candidates. (NB many only search back a maximum of 2 weeks assuming that the good candidates will have been placed by then. )
- Another lot of Recruiters now use networking, Social media, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Newsgroups and industry events and referrals.
The best method for a jobseeker is for them to use a multiple of methods to maximise their chances of being found by the Hunter. These methods include:
- Network. – Both in person and online.
- Adverts. – Read the local press, trade magazines, job boards and newsgroups.
- Recruiters. – Register with Recruitment Agencies.
- Job boards. – Put a CV on job board databases and make sure it is “ agent search friendly ” and refresh it at least every 2 weeks.
- LinkedIn. – Have a good Profile on LinkedIn and be active.
- Digital Footprint. – Ensure you have a great Digital Footprint on the web.
In conclusion: Be where the hunters can find you. This will increase the number of opportunities available
to you. The more methods you use, the greater the number of hunters who will find you in their sights as they go hunting for the right candidate.
